Inches to Shoe Size Converter

Foot length in inches straight to every size system — and an explanation of why US and UK sizes are secretly measurements in disguise.

Tip: measuring your foot in cm or inches is the most accurate starting point — see how to measure. Conversions between named size systems are approximate by nature.

How this conversion works

The barleycorn — one third of an inch — is the grading unit of both the US and UK systems, which is why size-to-length math is cleanest in inches: a UK size is roughly three times the foot length in inches minus 23.

Measure in the evening with full weight on the foot, and take the longer of both feet. If your measurement lands between sizes, the larger size is usually the comfortable choice.

Common questions

What size is a 10-inch foot?

10 inches (25.4 cm) is a US men's 8 / UK 7 / EU 40 on the standard scales.

Why do inches and centimetres give different answers?

They should not — they are the same measurement in different units. If they disagree, one of the two measurements was taken differently; remeasure.

How accurate is a traced measurement?

Within about 2–3 mm when done carefully — smaller than half a shoe size, and enough to pick the right row in any size grid.
